(Springfield).- The advent of online sports betting in the state appears not to have harmed in-person table game and slot revenue because MGM Springfield had the second-best month in its history, taking in $24 million in revenue in March.
The state’s six mobile sports betting operators reported gamblers made a total of $548 million in bets last month, overshadowing in-person betting in the first few weeks after it went live March 10.
The monthly handle, the amount of money wagered, at MGM Springfield’s on-site sportsbook fell in March by about $100,000, from $1.7 million in total bets in February to $1.66 million in March, according to figures released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
BetMGM, MGM’s mobile app, accounted for $45 million in handle, however.
March features March Madness, the NCAA’s men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments, an event MGM has said it is the busiest weeks of the year for sports gambling.
